SCCAP employee Marilyn Vehslage passes away

The South Central Community Action Program lost a much beloved and valued employee Thursday, June 5 with the passing of Marilyn Vehslage.

Marilyn was a Housing Program Assistant in the Weatherization Department, and had worked at SCCAP since February 2009. She died after a battle with cancer.

At 82 years old, Marilyn was an exceptionally hard-working and dedicated employee, coming to work and getting the job done even when she didn't feel well. She continued to work until the final weeks of her illness.

Marilyn will be remembered fondly for her straight-forward, no-nonsense, but caring ways.

"If you wanted to know the truth about anything, you asked Marilyn," a co-worker said.

She will be greatly missed not only for her strong work ethic, but also because she became like a family member to many of the staff - especially the members of the Weatherization Department. What Marilyn loved most was the visits from the children of her fellow staff members. She always said she wanted to take them home with her!

Marilyn constantly kept her co-workers in stitches with her witty comments and she loved to join in the banter with the guys in her department. Her greatest love was her immediate family. We all admired her for her love and dedication to their well-being.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, June 8 at the Funeral Chapel, 3000 E. 3rd Street.
