Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation and SCCAP Provide Sustainable Employment Resources and Address Barriers to Gaining Employment for Low-Income Families
Bloomington (March 3, 2021) - South Central Community Action Program (SCCAP) and the Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation are providing resources and tools for low-income families for meaningful and sustainable employment as well as addressing common barriers to achieving and maintaining employment.

SCCAP received $43,000 from the Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation for their Thriving Connections program which builds on the power of relationships to bring people together for change. The funding will increase staff capacity and expand sustainable employment initiatives needed for low-income individuals and families participating in the program.

"Thriving Connections promotes supportive friendships across class lines, matching families living without enough resources with volunteer allies in the community." said Linda Patton, Thriving Connections Coordinator, SCCAP. "Members of this diverse community work together to address barriers to getting out of poverty and to advocate for systemic change. With support from the Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation, Thriving Connections will provide participating families with the holistic supports needed to seek and sustain employment, overcome common barriers to employment such as childcare and transportation, and ultimately, achieve greater emotional and financial stability."

Through these initiatives and funding, SCCAP and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation hope to contribute to building a healthier and happier community in Monroe and surrounding Counties.

"Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation is proud to work with SCCAP and provide the support needed to expand and enhance the reach of their Thriving Connections program and sustainable employment initiatives," said Dr. Kimberly Roop, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Indiana Medicaid Plan President. "SCCAP will host training for staff participants at partner agencies to provide support to low-income individuals and families seeking employment or resources to overcome obstacles. Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation continues to work alongside our community partners to further our commitment to improve lives and communities."
