SCCAP Seeks Board Members in Monroe, Morgan and Owen counties

Nominations for a seat on the Board of Directors of South Central Community Action Program, Inc. (SCCAP) are being accepted and elections will be held. Three people will be elected, one each for vacant seats in Monroe, Morgan and Owen counties. These Board of Directors members must be at or below 150 percent of federal poverty guidelines.

Nominees can contact Doug Wilson at (812) 339-3447, ext. 262, doug@insccap.org for a nomination form and relevant SCCAP by-laws. Completed nomination forms should be sent to South Central Community Action Program, 1500 W. 15th Street, Bloomington, IN 47404 in advance of elections or can be presented at the election in each county.

The election for an Owen County board member will be held on Friday, Oct. 24 at 2 p.m. at the Owen County Community Library in Spencer.

The election for a Monroe County board member will be held on Monday, Oct. 27 at 2 p.m. at Bloomington City Council Chambers in the Showers Building.

The election for a Morgan County board member will be held on Thursday, Oct. 30 at 2 p.m. at Martinsville City Council Chambers.

The elections will be held in conjunction with SCCAP Energy Education meetings for low-income citizens in each county. Nominees will be given a chance to speak to those in attendance in order to gain their vote.

SCCAP is committed to serving low-income individuals and families and to ensure the rights of low-income individuals to participate in the governance of this organization. The nominee(s) must reside in the county which they represent and not have any conflicts of interest that would preclude them from serving on the board per the by-laws of the corporation.

In order to serve, board bylaws state that candidates must:

  •                 1. Live in the County they will represent on the Board.
  •                 2. Be 18 years old or older.
  •                 3. Have a qualifying income.
  •                 4. Be willing to attend monthly meetings on the first Monday evening of most months at the SCCAP office in Bloomington and participate in other board activities as needed.

Board members may be reimbursed .48 per mile for gas mileage for attending meetings.

The 15-member SCCAP board reviews and evaluates agency programs, develops a strategic plan and monitors progress, approves policies, and oversees the mission of the organization.

Service would begin on Monday, November 4 at 6:00pm.  Prior to that date, the person elected would need to be available for a 2 hour appointment to receive board orientation with the SCCAP Executive Director at our Bloomington office, 1500 W. 15th Street, Bloomington, IN 47404.
